Inspired by my beautiful daughter and her beautiful head of hair, I picked up a glue gun (well actually I sent my lovely husband out to pick it up for me!), some sheets of felt and a lot of alligator clips and I started creating some hair-clips.
These are so fun to make, I love to sit in front of the latest episode of Ugly Betty or Desperate Housewives while hand-stitching the all you need is love love hearts, bunny faces, tweet birds and more! My latest creation is the whale of a time hair-clip.
By the time I had finished making all of these, my daughter was running out of space in her room to store them all! So what better to create next, but some hair-clip holders! So far I've made a tweet hair-clip holder, an all you need is love hair-clip holder , a baby pink kawaii bunny hair-clip holder and one in red for good measure. The best things about these holders is that all you need is a tiny nail in the wall and walla!! Not only do they neatly store all your hair-clips, they're instant wall decor! And you no longer have to sift through a drawer full of hair-clips trying to find the right one to match the right outfit, because they're in plain sight, on display, ready to grab and go! I've hung my daughter's hair-clip holders on her wall, but you can hang them anywhere really, from the back of a doors to the side of a dresser.
I don't know about you, but I'm finding that there is just not enough days in the week to accommodate my daughter's hair accessories now!!!!!
I was stoked to receive my first batch of rattle inserts last week, and at the first chance I got, I whipped up a few taggy rattle monsters .
My son loves his retro dots monster and all the more for the delightful sound he is rewarded with when he moves those funny things attached to the end of his arms (they are your hands, my lovely son!).
Next came the taggy rattle balls . I had so much fun choosing the fabrics and ribbon colours for these. One of my favorites is the cherry striped taggy ball ,
but seeing as though my son may not take kindly in ten or so years to photos of him playing with pink toys, I picked the apples and stripes taggy ball for him.
It was mid-November and with Christmas nearing, I was stumped as to what to give my three-month old son. We already had heaps of baby toys which have been passed down to him from my three-year old daughter, not to mention we are running out of space to house all these aforementioned toys!
So I decided to make him some handcrafted toys that I designed myself, something special that no one else had and he could keep for years to come and not end up in the "spare room".
After getting started with a few toys, I decided to try my hand at some taggy squares. He is now getting to the age where hes grabbing at things and rubbing them to his face, so I needed something soft and also interesting, bright and fun that he could play with. And best of all, you can take them anywhere! They fit into a baby bag, (or if you're like me and don't like lugging around a huge bag everywhere) a hand bag; they can be attached to those plastic baby links and be linked to a pram, a highchair, car seats... you name it!
Having conquering taggy squares, I was feeling quite adventurous! Owls started popping up everywhere around the house, the soft plush-toy kind, that is! Our owl family is still growing, with new additions every week or so. They are so fun to make and its amazing how much personality you can get out of them, be it cheeky, coy or cute, and each of them has their own unique look.
Since then I've made some lace singlet tops for my almost-four-year-old daughter, which she loves, being the girly-girl she is. I didn't think my husband would appreciate his son in lace, so I made an appliqued tweety bird singlet for him. I've since made a girly version of this for a friend of mine.
I hope you've all had a very Merry Christmas and you're ready to toast to the New Year!
Right now I'm toasting to the start of my new blog about my Taylor-Maed by Me creations.
